Traffic Calming Projects

We are working to eliminate traffic-related serious injuries and fatalities through Guelph’s road safety strategy, Vision Zero.

Traffic calming is one of the actions in the Vision Zero Action Plan, which places physical measures on a street to help drivers travel at the posted speed and reduce the severity of collisions.

The upcoming traffic calming projects are a part of a larger 5-year effort to install traffic calming measures proactively throughout the community.

Where will traffic calming projects take place?

All traffic calming projects will be placed in higher-risk areas where they can have the greatest safety impact. Traffic calming projects are being installed in Community Safety Zones. These zones include streets near schools, senior centres, hospitals, and other places where the risk of serious injury is high.

The map below shows all eligible Community Safety Zones. Streets highlighted in red will receive traffic calming measures in the near term and with specific projects featured below. Streets highlighted in green may be eligible for traffic calming in the future.

How can I participate right now?

Everyone in Guelph is encouraged to review the proposed traffic calming plans and share input that may help inform the placement and design of measures, regardless of whether or not you live or work on the street.

It is especially valuable to get feedback from local people who live or work on these streets about things such as drainage concerns, informal crossing locations or notable street features. These fine-grained details help City staff better understand on-the-ground conditions so they can develop more effective, well-informed final designs.

Attend the open house at City Hall on July 22, 2026

Drop by from 12:30 p.m.–2:30 p.m. OR from 5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m. Join us in the Marg MacKinnon Room at City Hall (first floor, 1 Carden Street, Guelph) to learn more about the traffic calming plans for your street and speak with the project team. Following the open house join us here to participate online.
