From "The Ward to Downtown bridge"

Go to the project

The design is good, but it must be extended by 12 ft in the direction of Wellington St. The additional length of the bridge is proposed for the West side of the river crossing to provide clearance for a future trail, traveling parallel to the Speed River to pass underneath the proposed Guelph Junction Railway (GJR) pedestrian bridge, and underneath Macdonnell street, connecting with the Trans Canada Trail on the north side of Macdonell Street. While such an underpass has not yet been studied or proposed, I fear that the proposed GJR pedestrian bridge renderings will forever impede the construction of the much needed underpass. I ask that this consideration to lengthen the bridge by 12 feet (3.66 metres) be made at this time so as to maintain future options for improved active transportation at this infrastructure through this intersection. Please support this effort to get more people on bikes and walking through Guelph`s trails and parks. Grade separated crossings of major roads and trailways results in improved safety outcomes for all users.
