effective storm sewers

From "Queen Street Reconstruction"

Go to the project

Perhaps you are not aware, that before 1986, heavy storm water, by which I mean in heavy storms, on Queen St., running from the top of the hill to the bottom would often spill a great deal onto the sidewalk and lawns, and into house basements, rather than into the storm sewers themselves. The hill is rather steep and storm sewers were scarce ! Curbs were low. In 1986, some of this was changed so that water tends now to be collected into the grates and it remains on the roadway where the cars are.

As we all expect heavier rainstorms in the future, due to climate change, are you making accommodations at this opportune time to put in more storm sewers along Queen St in order to encourage storm water to enter the sewer system and not run down the street ? In other words, are you adding extra storm sewer ? I also would like to ask whether you are increasing the height of the hill at all, or the curve of the pavement, and hopefully your answer is negative in both instances. Thank you so much for this opportunity to comment on the upcoming roadwork.
