Moving Guelph Forward

Looking for Moving You Forward? Check out the project page below

Guelph is growing and how we move around our city is changing.

We're exploring transportation options to make our city move better in every way.

We need to work together to create a strong plan for transportation in Guelph. We have tough choices to make to ensure we properly balance the needs of everyone in our community today and tomorrow.

At our final destination

After evaluating four alternative solutions with community input, Council approved Alternative 3: Sustainability and Resiliency Focus as the preferred solution for transportation in Guelph. We are now developing the implementation plan for the Transportation Master Plan (TMP). During this phase, we create proposed transportation policies and programs to help build a sustainable and resilient transportation network in our city over the next 30 years along with a proposed schedule for future transportation projects.

In the end, we moved forward with Alternative 3: Sustainability and Resiliency Focus as the preferred solution for transportation in Guelph. afer a final round of engagement Council approved the Transportation Master plan in January 2022

The Gordon Street temporary bus-only lane is a demonstration to test transit priority measures as part of exploring the Community Plan vision of “transit is a priority”. It is a way to reimagine and experiment with the types of changes we could see on our roads in the future. What we learn from you will help guide the ongoing Transportation Master Plan.

Please complete the short survey below and tell us what you like about the street, what you don’t like, and what you think we could do differently to make it easier for you to move around in Guelph.

What do you think of the temporary bus-only lane on Gordon?

This temporary bus lane demonstrates one potential solution to balance the needs of all road users more equitably, safely, sustainably and affordably. In this case, we added a temporary bus-only lane northbound on Gordon Street between Kortright Road and South Ring Road. The location for the bus-only lane was selected due to previous plans for Gordon Street as a transit priority corridor, its existing high frequency transit service (every 10 minutes) and high ridership. As a demonstration project, we are not assuming that bus-only lanes are the best transit priority measure for Gordon Street, or that other streets will not be recommended for transit priority measures. Please describe your initial reaction to this temporary demonstration.
