Northeast Water Supply EA
About the project
Guelph’s population is growing and the City is studying whether our local water resources can meet expected demand, particularly in north east area of Guelph.
These questions are being evaluated through a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment to determine longer term water supply capacity in north east area of Guelph. This includes studying ways to increase groundwater supply and ensure a reliable drinking water source. One project involves developing a well in the Logan and Flemming Test Wells area. This is crucial because the City predicts a water shortage of 12,000 m³/day by 2051 due to climate change.
The process
The study is planned as a Schedule “B” Project under the Municipal Engineers Association’s Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process which is an approved Class of Environmental Assessment under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. Results from this study will be documented in a Project File Report that will be made available for a public review period. At that time, residents, Indigenous communities and other interested persons or groups will be informed of when and where the environmental assessment can be reviewed.

How can I participate right now?
Your input is valuable, and public consultation is an important part of the Class Environmental Assessment. We will use feedback in the assessment of alternatives and recommended solutions.
Through until December 1, 2025, we invite you to review the open house #2 information boards and take a few minutes to complete a survey.
