Wyndham Street North set up with road-side patios in 2021

Downtown Renewal - Wyndham St. and St. George's Square

A sub-project of the Downtown Infrastructure Renewal Program

The Phase 1: Wyndham Street North Reconstruction project is the first detailed design and construction project in the Downtown Infrastructure Renewal Program. This project was informed by the Wyndham Street Environmental Assessment (EA) and is the first phase identified in the upcoming Capital Implementation Plan (which outlines the construction sequencing).

This project runs in tandem with construction planning and implementation for the fulsome Downtown Infrastructure Renewal Program, and the study and design process for the Macdonell Bridge and Allan's Dam structure project.

Construction along Wellington Street East occurred in the summer of 2025 to lay the groundwork for new infrastructure along Wyndham N. and gas and power utility upgrades have been happening in sections of Downtown to prepare for the larger Construction which began March 30, 2025 and is moving through Wyndham street over the course of the next four months. Construction areas will re-open in stages as roads are complete to a level to allow traffic. All Wyndham Street construction is expected to complete in 2028.

Area of study

This part of the project focuses on the reconstruction of Wyndham Street North corridor, from approximately Farquhar Street to Woolwich Street.

Wyndham and Square detailed design

September 18, 2025 4:00 AM - October 17, 2025 4:00 AM

We’re almost there!

Construction time is upon us. The main Infrastructure construction began in the spring of 2026. Before locking in those construction plans, we needed to finalize the design for Wyndham Street North and St. George’s Square.

You can still review the information and design package presented in this phase that was used as a starting point for the final design.

Detailed Design package

The Fall of 2025 was a busy one for the project team! We shared the results of four years of listening, learning, drafting and re-drafting our plans and asked for your thoughts before the design is finalized and presented Council.

This phase of consultation has now ended.

From September 18 through to October 16 2025, we:

  • installed fixtures and features inside St. George's square so the community could interact with and experience some of the design elements
  • ran an ongoing virtual open house with detailed descriptions, information and questions for the community about the designs
  • hosted an open house in person at Old Quebec Shoppes and invited the whole community in to explore and discuss the designs with our project team
  • hosted our monthly construction cafe's. These will continue on the third Thursday of them Month at different locations throughout Downtown. Be sure to subscribe to our monthly Downtown newsletter or check in on the Diggable Downlow blog to learn about upcoming cafes.
  • opened our Downtown Construction Office at 42 Wyndham St., where our staff will be available and easily accessible to the community and businesses from now through to the end of construction to address any questions, concerns and ideas you may have as we continue moving forward.

Our team is working hard now to incorporate what we learned in this round of engagement into the finalized designs.

We'll be announcing our council presentation date soon. Follow this page to get notified.
