About the project

The City of Guelph is developing Green Development Standards (GDS) to make building projects more sustainable. These standards will include best practices, local climate adaptation needs, and input from the community. The GDS will be part of the City’s planning and approval process, applying to both new projects and redevelopments. Aligning with Guelph’s Official Plan and broader community objectives the GDS will address community greenhouse gas emissions, climate resilience, resource management and equity considerations. Through the project we will consider factors such as, development density, renewable energy, biodiversity, waste reduction and Guelph’s limited groundwater.

Community engagement

We will be consulting with Indigenous Governments and speaking with residents, businesses, and community groups to develop the standards to help us create successful, environmentally responsible urban development in Guelph.
