About the project

We have completed the detailed design for this new pedestrian and cycling bridge that will bring tangible active transportation and environmental benefits to our local community. Construction will start in early 2025. Our goal is to make it easier to walk and bike in Guelph while ensuring important environmental restoration work in the Speed River is completed. The bridge will provide an accessible walking and cycling route across the Speed River and will connect to the Downtown Trail.

Black and white key map showing that the bridge will span the speed river connecting Emma Street and Earl Street.

How to participate

In fall of 2023, we asked you for your input on the top two design concepts and heard from over 500 people. Based on your feedback we chose to proceed with the steel girder bridge design. Please review the engagement summary to review the results. Thank you so much for your feedback.

As we look to construction of the bridge we want to offer the opportunity to ask questions and provide comments on the upcoming work. Review the information package and bridge images and if you have any questions up to and during construction please ask below.

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

This is the second phase of your engagement. In the first stage in 2016 we asked if having a bridge was supported by the community and what was important to the community in developing alternatives for the bridge.

Using that feedback we are moving ahead with the bridge design and we now have two concepts to present to you. Have a look at each concept image and tell us what you think of it and then tell us what your favourite is and why.
