Whether you’re a sports enthusiast, a sports field neighbour, or a fan, we want to hear from you.

We’re creating a plan for how we’ll manage sports fields and your participation will contribute to creating vibrant and accessible spaces for recreation and community fun in the city. Be part of the team that shapes the future of sports fields in Guelph!

About the project

The Outdoor Sport Facility Strategy is a comprehensive 15+ year strategy that will guide the development, management, and maintenance of Guelph’s outdoor sports fields and courts. The strategy will:

  • Further our understanding of how we currently provide services for outdoor sports
  • Establish service level targets for outdoor sports fields and surfaces
  • Plan for the quality, quantity and type of infrastructure we will need in the future
  • Understand emerging trends and leading practices
  • Equitably provide services and facilities to all residents
  • Guide management and maintenance of our sports fields and surfaces

The strategy will focus on outdoor infrastructure and services for sport fields (rectangular, diamonds) and courts (basketball, tennis, pickleball, volleyball). It will also consider unprogrammed, regional, and extended use of sport infrastructure. This work will build upon the groundwork and direction set out in the City’s Park Plan and Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

Hey Guelph, you are great sports!

Over the spring and summer of 2024, we had nearly 700 responses to our phase one survey and over 100 more conversations with users and residents about the future of Guelph's sports fields. You are all winners in our books!

We asked the community to:

  • Identify where improved or different sports fields and courts may be needed across the city
  • Share information about new, emerging, or international sports that should be considered in the strategy
  • Let us know what's working and how we can improve where and how outdoor sport facilities are built, booked and maintained across the City.

Check out the full engagement summary from 2024 where we share what we heard from the community.

Watch for more engagement to come your way in 2025!

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

We’re interested in learning more about your experiences with outdoor sport facilities in Guelph.

Outdoor sport facilities in this context mean mainly:

    • Diamonds (such as baseball, softball and T-ball)
    • Courts (such as basketball, tennis and pickleball, beach volleyball)
    • And rectangular fields (such as soccer, lacrosse and many other sports played on a flat grass surface

We know there are other sports played outdoors, and we want to hear about them too!

We’re asking the community how you use outdoor sport facilities, how you want to use the, how we can improve the facilities we already offer as well as what facilities don’t we see enough of in Guelph.

Please take 10 to 15 minutes to share your thoughts and your experiences with us so we can better plan for the future of outdoor sport facilities in our community.
